FlashForward pt 3

flashforward

In the TV show, FlashForward, a global blackout occurs, killing 20 million people as cars crash, airplanes and helicopters fall from the sky, people drown, fall to their death, etc. Those that survive have an amazing experience. They actually see 6 months into the future. And not just any future, but their own future. Their consciousness actually jumps ahead to a specific date 6 months later, where each individual sees what they were doing at that moment.

Have you ever wondered what your future would be like? What if you actually saw your future? What if you actually caught a glimpse of your own future? How would you respond? What emotions would you feel? Would you be happy by what you saw? Would you be sad? Excited? Fearful? Perhaps it would be too much of a wake up call, to actually see our future.

In this series we talked about three main areas where our choices greatly affect our futures. There are certainly many more avenues we could have gone with this concept, but the three that we talked about specifically at Adrenaline were pertinent to our students.

6 Months to Eternity

When we talk about “eternity” we are referring to what happens after we die. There are a lot of theories and beliefs about the “afterlife.” But the Bible is very clear on what happens when we die. There are basically two places a person could go, depending on one choice while they are still here on this earth. Heaven and a forever future with Christ, or Hell, and a forever future in torment and separation from God. That’s it. There’s no purgatory, temporary holding place, becoming ghosts or some other kind of spirit.

A. Everyone will die. Hebrews 9.27 says, “…each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment…” That is one part of destiny that is universal. Everyone will die. While we are super positive at Adrenaline about what God can/wants to do in people, the reality is that everyone will die.

What if you had a FlashForward and you experienced your own death? Or worse, you don’t have a FlashForward because in less than 6 months, you will be dead? You don’t know how or when, but you know that you do. How would that change the way you live right now? Would you be in a place forever with Christ? Or forever separated from Him?

B. Not Everyone is Ready for Eternity. Jesus came to this earth to save mankind from sending themselves to Hell. But the requirement for receiving that free gift is believing in Jesus and making Him Savior and Lord. Not everyone has made that choice. Even worse still, not everyone KNOWS about that choice.

It’s our job as the church to get out there and show the world that Jesus loves them and wants to live in them! But we can get so self-centered that we forget that we’re to love people. We come to God with OUR needs and OUR stuff, and don’t think twice about the people around us that don’t even have Christ in their life.

Let’s do what we can to win people to Christ!
